Google Rankings Show Increased Volatility on November 12

We’re seeing a lot of movement in Google’s search results again, with most of the changes picking up yesterday, November 12th. This could be connected to the ongoing “Movember” update I mentioned over the weekend.

There has been a noticeable increase in discussion over the past day, and several tracking tools also showed spikes during the last 24 hours.

Adding to the confusion, Google Search Console’s performance reports haven’t fully updated since Monday, and GA4’s real-time reporting was not working earlier today. Because of that, it has been harder than usual to track what’s going on.

The last time we talked about major ranking changes was the Movember update around November 8th, then the Halloween shifts, followed by movement between October 15–17, and before that on October 7–8. Since Google removed the option to view 100 search results per page and many tracking tools had to readjust, there has been less visible discussion about ranking changes. Still, experienced SEOs can often sense when Google adjusts rankings, and it looks like there was a noticeable shift around October 16th.

SEO Chatter

Most of the discussion from SEOs is happening in the comments section here, along with a bit of conversation on WebmasterWorld:

“”I see no traffic today. lol. They definitely pushed something.””

“”Yes, everything’s in ditch right now – Traffic, CPC, RPM, CTR, Earnings””

“”Traffic from Discover very low… Google something changed””

“”Today was disappointingly interesting. I have two websites, one of which has an 11-year-established background (over 10k products) and the other with hardly any backlinks (less than 1k products). My established website, which gets easily 20-30 new signups and about 20 sales every day, received 3 signups so far. Meanwhile, my other website, which usually receives a sale every other day, had 6 sales in one day today … So obviously something’s up …””

“”Today awesome drop… No traffic totaly. “”

“”Yes, I even saw a “0” when I checked the analytics.””

“”Same. Traffic from Google is dead. It was bad at the beginning of the week, but now it’s absolutely terrible””

Those are just a few of the comments.
