A recent report from Google’s Access event reveals that ads will soon be introduced to AI Mode in the EU. However, it’s important to note that even in the U.S., ads in AI Mode are still in the testing phase and not yet fully rolled out.
The information comes from Frederik Boysen, who shared details about the update in a LinkedIn post.
“Google says very, very shortly ads in the EU will be in AI mode. Just presented at Google Access. Exciting!”
He shared a photo from the event showing a slide that reads:
“Ads in AI Overviews: Available in the U.S., coming to select English markets by the end of 2025.”
This confirms that ads are now officially appearing in and around AI Overviews, which makes more sense than referring to them as part of “AI Mode.”

It’s unclear whether this was a misstatement, a misunderstanding, or an early indication of what’s to come — we’ll have to wait and see.
I came across this update via PPC News Feed, and there’s an ongoing discussion about it on LinkedIn.
