Google Search Rankings Show Heated Volatility in March

Google search rankings have continued to stay unstable into March. While we expected things to settle down, that hasn’t really happened. Changes are still happening almost daily, although they seem smaller and not officially confirmed by Google.

For context, the February 2026 Google Discover update started on February 5 and finished on February 27. Even towards the end of February, when things appeared to calm down slightly, the fluctuations didn’t fully stop.

We’ve seen ongoing changes since late January, with noticeable activity on multiple dates throughout January and February. Before that, there was also a major update in December 2025, which ran from December 11 to December 29, with two key spikes during that period.

Overall, search rankings have remained quite active over the past few months, with no clear signs of stability yet.

Here is some of the recent chatter on WebmasterWorld and comments here:

“”Experiencing the same for multiple clients. SEMrush sensors are ranging to 9.5 now.””

“”Whats happening in SERP. Every hour, there is a home page ranking, sometimes a Health Insurance product page ranks, sometimes a blog ranks, sometimes another family health insurance page ranks for the “Health Insurance” Keyword in SERP India. Can someone explain why this is happening?””

“”Doesn’t seem like it’s over to me…searches down 23% yesterday and 22% today so far. That is after the supposed end of the update. My top ranking terms dropped like a stone again yesterday and today for desktop searches. Mobile rankings are increasing.””

“”Yes, its going at full strength, no slowdown at all.””

“”Yes, the update has not been completed yet. Traffic on some websites is decreasing, while on others it’s increasing.””

I wonder why Google won’t confirm any of these ranking changes?
