Google Tests Local Panel Tab Buttons Below Main Search Bar

Google appears to be testing—or possibly unintentionally showing—a new layout for the local panel sub-menu, placing it directly under the main search bar.

Usually, these sub-menu options show up within the local panel on the right side of the page, especially on mobile. But in this case, they’re appearing right below the search box at the top of the results page.

This test was spotted by Jamie on X, who shared multiple screenshots:

When you select one of the options, the results below shift, and the local panel content appears on the left side of the page instead of the usual right-hand position.

It’s definitely an interesting test, though personally, I’m not sure I like the new layout.
